Our Story

The company JJ Brown Watchmakers exists all because of a man named Jeff.

Jeff J. Brown had a passion for watchmaking and he wanted to bring his passion and expertise to the City of Adelaide. So 40 years ago he opened a little shop called "Jeff J. Brown Watchmaker and Jeweller". His aim was to provide the best watch repair and restoration services to Adelaide and so JJ Brown Watchmakers reputation for quality began.

Though since retired, the passion and JJ Brown reputation continues through owners Aaron and Eliza, with a focus to provide the best watch repairs not only to Adelaide, but to all of Australia by offering watch repairs, watch bands, watch maintenance, watch batteries and watch restoration by postage.

With over 40 years trading experience in the area, Aaron and Eliza, both qualified in watch making are carrying on the tradition of product knowledge and customer service along with an apprentice watchmaker and Jeff who can still be seen visiting the store. Aaron and Eliza have the experience and expertise to give the very best advice on watch repairs and restoration.

We know the in's and out's of a quality timepiece and always love to help find the perfect timepiece for you. Even when buying online with us, we're a simple email or phone call away for advice.

We aim to continually grow our knowledge and improve our skills, with a quest for customer satisfaction. We hope you will join us on our journey.

Our History

We launch our brand new website in December 2014.  We have bigger plans just on the horizon for our website, which will be launched in January of the following year.  We also continue to provide our skilled craftsmanship to all our Australian customers by accepting watch repair and maintenance work via postage and courier from all around Australia.

More on Postage Repairs

In late 2013 plans were set in motion to re-brand our company's image.  A small name change from 'Jeff J Brown Watchmaker and Jeweller' to 'JJ Brown Watchmakers,' was implemented, as well as a new logo.

In November of 2013, Aaron & Eliza moved the shop a few doors down to Shop 16 Charles Street Plaza (our Current Location), providing us with a better and easier to find location.

In 2013 Gavin joins our team of watchmakers. They take him under their wing as an apprentice.

In July of 2013 Aaron and Eliza forged a new business partnership together.

Our apprentice (at the time) Eliza wins the honour of apprentice of year, awarded to her by the South Australian Training Awards.  The Minister for Employment, Higher Education and Skills, Tom Kenyon presented the award and when speaking of Eliza at the Awards, Mr Kenyon said,

“Ms Camac stood out as being inspirational and passionate about her trade. Her enthusiasm will no doubt make her a great ambassador for the watchmaking industry, as well as encouraging other young people to take up an apprenticeship or vocational education training.”

In October '09 we acquired a double shop location at 13&14 Charles Street Plaza, right next door to our 1996 location, providing us with a bigger store front and larger work area.

Eliza joins the team as an apprentice watchmaker.  She was one of only two watchmaker apprentices in South Australia.

In September 2008 Jeff retires, handing the reigns over to Aaron.

We would call 'Shop 12, John Martins Plaza' (Later renamed Charles Street Plaza) our home for the next 12 years.

Jeff opens the doors, operating under the name,  'Jeff J Brown Watchmaker and Jeweller'.
